The other night I was in such terrible pain (due to weakness from a previous surgery) I could not sleep, so my mom took me in to the Emergency Room. We had to wait for a while and all that time I was bracing myself for the fat-shaming I’d experienced the last time I’d come in. There was none. The doctor simply asked if I’d been doing my Physical Therapy and what I would normally do in instances of pain. I told him I took oxycodone that I had left over from the surgery, but that I’d since run out. So he just gave me some and prescribed me more. That was it. If I hadn’t been so tired I probably would have been in tears.
Thin Privilege is not being honestly surprised when the Emergency Room doctor mentions nothing about your weight when you come in for pain.
