Can’t I Just Do My Job?

Thin privilege is being able to come to work without being bombarded by messages of how one needs to change one’s body in order to be considered acceptable. Every time I come into work, there are “health” bulletins on every bulletin board in the place. Inevitably, one of the “health” suggestions is the need to get to and/or maintain a “healthy” (read: THIN) weight.

I have no problem doing my job. I am not employed as a supermodel. I do work out, which is my business, and none of theirs. Why, if I show up on time and do the work required of me, should I not be allowed to work in peace without the message that I am somehow a “flawed” being because of my size?
